Who to contact at City Hall including the mayor and councillors
- The City of Burnaby. https://www.burnaby.ca/ A bike button not working, or debris on the road? The city needs specific information when you email or call. Sometimes the issue belongs to engineering and other times it could be parks and recreation, or maybe it's the province or the feds. It all matters because the city doesn't deal with provincial issues and the feds don't deal with city or provincial issues. Emailing works, but often takes time. Be as descriptive as you can. Add an image. Give location information. If it's an emergency call them. If not, take pictures if you can to attach to your email or text. Share these contacts with your cycling friends. Keep them in your phone for quick calls.
- City of Burnaby Engineering engineering@burnaby.ca -- No signage when construction work being carried out, lights out anywhere, potholes, signage/way finding missing or lacking, cycle symbols on ground needs repainting, other concerns. If you find engineering is not responsive, resend your request and copy to legislative services at LegislativeServices@burnaby.ca. Copying legislative services confirms the City has received your email and you can follow up on your email at a later date.
- Burnaby Biking Hotline: 604-294-7200
- Debris on the Road? Contact corporate@mainroad.ca or call 604-271-0337. Burnaby contracts this work out. Take a picture if you can. Describe accurately the street(s) and or area. This tends to be cleaned up quickly. There are also differences between city roads, or roads the province owns and who does what. For example, Douglas Road and Gilmore Road overpasses are the responsibility of the Province of BC. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. Hastings St., or Kingsway are the City's responsibility. If they don't clean up the mess its because its not in their jurisdiction. If you email they will get back to you and let you know this.
- Bylaw Enforcement. Email: engineering@burnaby.ca or call the bike hotline at 604-294-7200. This is a tricky one with the City. Sometimes the city is interested in trucks parking in bike lanes and sometimes they are not. Common bylaw infractions include vehicle parking and stopping regulations. Of particular interest to cyclists are trucks and cars parked in cycling lanes, lack of signage on where to detour when building and construction occurring etc. Write and or take pictures. Complain if you don't get any action. Copy the mayor and councillors if necessary.
- City of Burnaby – Hotline maintenance requests. Anything can be called in. General 604-294-7200 takes calls 24 hours a day. Describe the problem, the location. Can also email at engineering@burnaby.ca
- Riding a MUP (multi use path). A MUP is a wide sidewalk, it accommodates people and bikes. If you find your pathway is overgrown with trees hanging down, brambles in your face or tree root ingress take pictures and email the city. MUPs are parks and rec domain. Contact Parks and Rec. Describe the problem, take a picture and email it in. Or call. Tel: 604-294-7206 Parks.ops@burnaby.ca
Mayor and Council - the important people who we vote for and they run the city. If you don't receive any acknowledgement on your emails or issues c.c. (old for carbon copy) legislative services @legislativeservices@burnaby.ca so you can track your email.
